2024 has been a turbulent year, with many hyped-up stocks and cryptocurrencies rising astronomically. Investors with a strong risk-on approach have done well and benefited from volatile stocks being pushed (way) higher by an exuberant market.

My portfolio, unfortunately, has not been able to match the indexes and has gone sideways for the vast majority of the year. I have not hunted hyped-up stocks and instead focused on quality businesses that have come under pressure. While it’s totally fine to underperform in any given year, it’s good practice to find out if my decisions were good or not and if we can learn something from it.

In this post, I’ll look at all seven of my full sales and my two partial sales. Why did I sell? How did the stock perform afterward? What have I done with the funds? No matter if a stock goes up or down afterward, we can only judge the performance when compared to the reinvestment of the cash. With that out of the way, let’s look at a timeline of sales and then provide a breakdown and analysis for my premium subscribers.

Timeline

I have all my transactions in Euros, but I’ll add the rough dollar/listed currency in brackets. In this article, I’ll cover the first five sales, with the other four following in a few days.

  1. Ulta Beauty ULTA 0.00%↑ - full sale (26% gain) on 14th February for 496€ (~$530)

  2. RCI Hospitality RICK 0.00%↑ - full sale (15% loss) on 3rd April for 51,2€ (~$56)

  3. Ashtead Group - full sale (5% gain) on 04th July for 62€ (~5220 GBp)

  4. Danaher DHR 0.00%↑ - sale of 1/7th of the position on 19th July for 222€ (~$245)

  5. Stemmer Imaging - full sale (55% gain + 8% dividend) on 22th July for 48€
